How to clear your blocked toilet

by | Aug 22, 2016 | Plumbers

What do you do when you have a blocked toilet at 2:00 a.m. and all the shops are closed? If you have ever experienced blocked toilets in Poole or any other area in the UK, you know how frustrating it can be. Luckily, there are some simple methods to fixing this problem. Of course, the first step is always a plunger; but if that fails to solve the problem, then here is another trick you can try to clear your toilet quickly:

Get a bottle of liquid soap, shampoo or body wash and pour a generous amount into your toilet bowl.

* Get a bucket very hot water from the tap (not boiling) and pour it into the bowl until just about full – not overflowing. Never use boiling water, as this can crack your toilet, and then you’re in for a much more expensive project.

* Now go sit down with a nice hot cup of tea (or a Guinness) and let the mixture ‘marinate’.

* Flush the mixture down the toilet and ‘voila’ – the clog should be cleared.

If you find that you have to do this on a regular basis, it might be time to call a professional. The problem could be your toilet pipes, or it could be a bigger problem with your sewer or septic tank. There are many reasons that your toilet could be plugging up, including tree roots growing in your pipes, old piping both inside and out, or you’re flushing non-flushable things like baby wipes or paper towels (these do not break down, so can clog easily).

If you notice that your sink and tub drains are slow or they get clogged as well, calling a professional can help identify the problem and give you suggestions on how to fix/upgrade your system.
