Maintenance Tips to Prolong the Life of your Scooter

A mobility scooter is a major life investment, and one that is not cheaply replaced. As such, you want to make sure that you’re taking very good care of it. That, of course, includes maintenance and upkeep. But what if you don’t know a thing about scooter maintenance? And even if you did, the fact that you need the thing in the first place means you may not be physically able to. Thankfully, these scooters are relatively simple to handle when it comes to maintenance. So, if you are considering mobility scooters in Bridgwater, but know nothing about the maintenance involved with owning one, here are some tips to help prolong your scooter’s lifespan.

#1. Read the manual ASAP

One vital key to keeping your scooter functioning for a good long while is to read the included manual front to back at least twice, to make sure you understand every little detail and component. This way, you’ll be more intimately familiar with the machinery, and be able to notice and get out in front of problems in the future before they become too serious.

#2. Take care of the battery

Take very good care of the scooter’s battery. They are almost as expensive to replace as the scooter itself, and can very easily break if left unmanaged. At least once a month, perform some deep cleaning on the battery, and look it over for signs of corrosion. Ask your dealer when you buy the battery for any other tips for taking care of the battery that’s in your scooter. They should know enough to help you out.

#3. Keep the scooter out of the elements

Have your scooter inside if possible. If you absolutely must have it outside, put a thick tarp over the top until the next time it’s used. The last thing you need is for bugs, dirt, water and grime to get into every little crack of your scooter. While it may not seem like a problem at first, removing any kind of dirt from the scooter will go a long way to prolonging its life in the future. Do not underestimate nature’s ability to mess with your machinery.

Mobility scooters are both sturdy and yet oddly fragile in many ways. On one hand they can support a variety of different body types, on the other, leave them out in the rain one night, and they’re history. Remember these tips, however, and you and your mobility scooter will enjoy a long happy life together.
